INTRODUCTION

  • Jesus will teach about kingdom dynamics through a series of parables.
  • Matthew gives us 8 of these parables in chapter 13.
  • The word parable means to throw, lay, or place alongside.
  • Jesus would use parables alongside the spiritual truth He was teaching to give understanding.
  • It was a common form of Jewish teaching.  A common or observable object or practice was used to give spiritual truth a handle for clearer understanding.
  • The parables in ch. 13 deal with dirt, seed, roads, birds, thorns, weeds, fruit, wheat, plants, yeast, treasures, pearls, etc.

MESSAGE THEME: The distinction between mere profession and true possession of kingdom life is fruit.

MESSAGE POINTS:

  1. The Parable – Seeds and Soils
  2. The Parable Explained
  3. Spiritual Fruit Delineated
  • QUESTION: What is the true evidence or standard of being a Christian?
