Speaker: Mike Riches
MESSAGE THEME: Jesus of Nazareth is verified as the Messiah and commissioned
as God’s Christ.
*INTRODUCTION
We have looked at understanding how Jesus lived; now we want to understand what
Jesus did.
This will help us understand what it looks like to advance His kingdom together.
It is important because Jesus commissioned us, sending us into the world as God
the Father had sent Him into the world. (John 17:18-20; 20:21)
*Cornerstone Text:
Luke 4:18–19 (NKJV) “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed
Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To
proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those
who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
AND
Luke 19:10 “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
In the Gospel of Luke, the mission of Jesus Christ is not a reaction to unexpected
events. It is the deliberate, historical fulfillment of God’s eternal covenant.
When Jesus stood in the synagogue at Nazareth and read from the scroll of
Isaiah, 61:1-2, He was not offering a mere possibility. He was issuing a divine
declaration.
Before our Lord proclaimed that manifesto in Luke 4:18, Luke presented His
credentials through the events recorded in chapters 1 through 4.
*A king does not seize authority without divine right; neither did Jesus take this
mission upon Himself.
God the Father deployed Him
The Spirit anointed Him
The lineage humanly qualified Him
The wilderness tested and proved Him
